I FIGHT BECAUSE...

I was born to Win! BUT I came into a world that expected me to lose
I fight because leaders before me paved a path and now I have to fill those shoes
I fight because my life depends on it; if I don’t then I die
And to live this life for nothing is not the vision in my eyes
I fight because in today’s society we struggle more than ever before
I fight because I’m tired of struggling and I don’t want to struggle any more
I fight because my brothers are becoming extinct, too many locked in jail
I fight for the souls of them also; too many are burning in their own Hell
The streets won’t come to church; the church won’t go to the streets
I fight to be that mid-line where both sides could meet
My sisters have succumb to being hood-rats, and tricks, what happened to being a lady?
I fight because Brenda is still having babies
There’s a war outside, and it’s right in front of your face
It will leave you lifeless if you don’t keep pace
I fight because you won’t, I pray because you don’t
We would rather wear white tees and be dope boys then wear a tie and get a job
I fight because our work ethic is gone so instead we steal and rob (and one another for that matter!!)
I fight because the ones behind me depend on me to lead
I fight because God told me too, and with Him I know I will succeed
Now don’t get me wrong this is a fight that hurts each and everyday
But just think if I gave up now how many more would we lose today
I fight because the tears I shed can’t go unnoticed
I fight because really that’s the only thing that keeps me focused
You see the news, you hear the music; don’t try to deny what you feel
That’s the reason why I fight because I know that this fight is Real!!!!!

That's exactly what I plan on doing! One gets tired of the constant struggle due to intimidation, the need to be in control, manipulation, and the many other insecurities that people deal with on a daily basis. I, for one, don't play games and it has caused me to feel like I'm sure Dr. King felt when he took a stand against something that hurt the masses.
To be a leader, you have to have thick skin. You can't be too sensitive but you have to be able to stand WITH integrity, boldness, and YES, even tenacity! I'm stronger today than I was yesterday, but even in the daily fight, I know that the battle isn't mine, but it's the Lord Almighty! I'm taking this sojourn to reflect and reposition myself because at this stage in the juncture, I won't be moved! I won't allow our young people to be manipulated and oppressed any longer! I WON'T DO IT! If I were to remain silent, as I had in the past, then I'd be guilty of doing the same thing, but NO MORE!
Going to Atlanta always allows me the time to reignite the flame inside me that burns with passion for the coming generations. Walking the same corridors that Dr. King walked on the campus of Morehouse College reminds me that there is a higher purpose than all the crap that I see today! Yes, I do plan to get some rest because the battle is serious and the enemy is playing for keeps!
One of the familiar quotes that was always put before me while a student at Morehouse was this, "a man who does not stand for SOMETHING will fall for ANYTHING and die for NOTHING at all!"

This is truly a wonderful word for today! Everyone needs to be reminded from time to time why they are here on this earth! We also need to reconnect to our innerselves...this is where the true fight is---in the mind! Thanks for sharing, you AND your son have been a blessing to me this day!
Amen

This is an EXCELLENT read! Your son truly does move and operate with your spirit and passion! This is a generational blessing for you B.Real. Congrats and get the rest you need because I can sense that things are going to pick up for you upon your return! I hope you are making plans for publishing a few books because its MOST DEFINITELY needed. God has gifted you with an ability to shed the excess weight with a candor and vigilence that very few have. You are one to look out for in 06 and into 2007. The world doesn't even know the real U yet my man!!!
Keep it comin...because if you don't believe, you will. The old guard isn't ready but who is? The old guard will NEVER be ready and there will never be a "right" time either! I'm sure you get that jibber jabber alot! Most of the time that's a political way of saying "they ain't ready yet!" So keep pressing through because you are a gift to the world. Both you and your son are! What's his name? Da Warrior? He's tight!!!
